CHMTL CD-ROM (2008) ORDER FORM

Since its inception, the texts and graphics of the Thesaurus Musicarum Latinarum (TML) have been made available on disc to scholars who do not or cannot use the online points of access. In this new release of the CD-ROM, the texts and graphics of Traités français sur la musique (TFM), under the direction of Peter Slemon; saggi musicali italiani (SMI), under the direction of Andreas Giger; and, once again, CANTUS: A Database for Latin Ecclesiastical Chant, compiled at the University of Western Ontario under the direction of Terence Bailey, are included as well.

The CHMTL CD-ROM contains all the data in the various databases, current as of mid- October 2008. Individuals or institutions wishing a copy of the TML, TFM, SMI, and CANTUS on CD-ROM should retrieve, print out, and complete the following order form and return it to us by conventional mail as noted below.

Readable by Macintosh and Windows operating systems, the CHMTL CD-ROM is a hybrid disc emulating the TML, TFM, SMI, and CANTUS web sites. In order to use the web emulation, users need to have a web browser (e.g., Safari, Internet Explorer, Magellan, Firefox etc.) installed on their machines. The CHMTL CD-ROM also includes (1) all the texts as separate files that can be opened with any word processor or searched with any search engine that will read ASCII text files and (2) all the graphics as separate GIF files that can be displayed by most graphics viewers.

In addition to the texts and graphics of the various databases, the Macintosh portion of the CHMTL CD-ROM includes a trial copy of UltraFind (for Macintosh OS7, OS8, OS9, or Classic running on OSX; for further information, see http://www.ultradesign.com/ultrafind/ultrafind.html), and the Windows portion includes Eureka! (compatible with Windows98, NT, 2000, XP, and Vista; for further information, see http://www.chmtl.indiana.edu/tml/eureka_inst.html). Any other search engine capable of searching ASCII text may be used in place of either of the search engines included on the disc.

The CANTUS files can be viewed through the web emulation on the CHMTL CD-ROM, but in order to manipulate these files, users will need a database program, as described on the disc. No database program is included on the CHMTL CD-ROM.

NOTE: The CHMTL CD-ROM will be made available on a non-profit basis in response to the following individual request. Neither the CD-ROM nor its contents in whole or in part may be sold, resold, given, transferred in any way to other media, or distributed or employed within an environment providing multiple users with simultaneous access to it through mechanical, electronic, or other similar means (e.g., file-servers, networks, etc.). Neither Indiana University nor the TML,TFM, or SMI Project Directors nor any member of the staff of the TML,TFM, or SMI shall be responsible for (1) any improper or unlawful use of the materials contained on this CD-ROM; and (2) any damages of any kind arising from the use of the CD-ROM.
