CHMTL CD-ROM (2002) ORDER FORM

Please Note: This is an order form for the 2002 edition of the CHMTL CD-ROM. The new edition, currently advertised in our brochure, is not yet available, but if you would like to place an advance order, you may use this form by writing "Advance order for the 2008 edition" at the top, completing the form as described below, and sending it to us with your check. If you would rather wait to order the 2008 edition, we anticipate that it will be available some time in the Fall.

Since its inception, the texts and graphics of the Thesaurus Musicarum Latinarum (TML) have been made available on disc to scholars who do not or cannot use the online points of access. Now, in this new release of the CD-ROM, the texts and graphics of saggi musicali italiani (SMI), under the direction of Andreas Giger, are being made available in this way as well. Through a special arrangement, the material of CANTUS: A Database for Gregorian Chant, compiled at the University of Western Ontario under the direction of Terence Bailey, has once again been included on the CHMTL CD-ROM.

The CHMTL CD-ROM contains all the data in the various databases, current as of the end of January 2002. Individuals or institutions wishing a copy of the TML, SMI, and CANTUS on CD-ROM should retrieve, print out, and complete the following order form and return it to us by conventional mail as noted below.

Readable by Macintosh and Windows operating systems, the CHMTL CD-ROM is a hybrid disc emulating the TML, SMI, and CANTUS web sites. The texts of the disc can also be searched or displayed on DOS machines, but neither the graphic interface of the disc nor the graphics files that form a part of the TML, SMI, and CANTUS will be usable on this type of machine.

With one exception, the CHMTL CD-ROM does not include any of the applications needed to display or search its texts or graphics. In order to use the web emulation, users need to have a web browser (Safari, Netscape Navigator, or Internet Explorer) installed on their machines. In order to search the TML, SMI, and CANTUS files, users need either UltraFind (for Macintosh; available from http://www.ultradesign.com/ultrafind/ultrafind.html), Eureka! (included on the Windows portion of the CD-ROM), or any other search engine capable of searching ASCII text. In order to manipulate the CANTUS files, users will need a database program, as described on the disc.

NOTE: The CHMTL CD-ROM will be made available on a non-profit basis in response to the following individual request. Neither the CD-ROM nor its contents in whole or in part may be sold, resold, given, transferred in any way to other media, or distributed or employed within an environment providing multiple users with simultaneous access to it through mechanical, electronic, or other similar means (e.g., file-servers, networks, etc.). Neither Indiana University nor the TML or SMI Project Directors nor any member of the staff of the TML or SMI shall be responsible for (1) any improper or unlawful use of the materials contained on this CD-ROM; and (2) any damages of any kind arising from the use of the CD-ROM.
